Henry: Arsenal have a mental problem, but Wenger should stay

Nathaniel Diaz | 10 February, 2017, 02:14

ESPN pundit Craig Burley has unleashed a stinging attack on Arsenal fans' willingness to settle for "mediocrity" every season, after the Gunners fell 12 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea with defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

And the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who has admitted his team's last disastrous week has left him feeling "not very well", has demanded his club's fans become more like those of deadly rivals Tottenham and start backing their team.

And while most fans have given up on Arsenal's Premier League title chances and turned their focus to the question of whether Wenger should stay at the club next season, the Frenchman himself said it was too early to give up on catching Chelsea. We can not behave or think like that.

Arsene Wenger refused to confirm whether there is a new contract offer from Arsenal, or whether he has made a decision on his much-debated future.

It sounds like Henry is putting most of it down to the players themselves, and on the manager whose job it is to get them ready for games, he said, "The work he has to do at the moment is hard, because it is mental work".

"We have as well to fight like we want to catch Chelsea or you have no fuel".

"What matters is not the opinions of people but the next result and how we respond to situations".

"The Premier League is hard for everybody - they were a bit unlucky sometimes, so they are a tough opposition for us".

Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart who is now on loan at Italian club Torino as they look for a replacement for Petr Cech.

Wenger concedes that not only are his side battling it out for a first title since 2004 but they are also looking to keep up their run of top-four finishes. Yet the spineless Arsenal fans will not get up at the Emirates and voice their opinion, and really stamp their feet: 'We want change, we want change.

Wenger told his pre-match news conference on Thursday morning: "It's never over - we can not behave like that.Even if you think it is, I don't. Even if you [reporters] think like that, I don't", Wenger said. "This is a period where we have to stick together and focus".

I will recognize that Wenger has done a great job guiding the team through the hard financial restraints and at least getting Arsenal in the Champions League.
