Charles Oakley's ban from Madison Square Garden lifted

Michael Jordan and Adam Silver step in on Knicks debacle Michael Jordan Finesses Sit Down With Charles Oakley and Knicks Owner

Even with his best efforts to trot out Latrell Sprewell and other Knicks legends, the overwhelming majority of support has come in on the side of Oakley from fans and National Basketball Association players. Oakley had been banned from the arena after getting arrested for a scuffle with three security guards last week while attending a Knicks game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The fallout has been ugly, with the much reviled Dolan insinuating that Oak is an alcoholic while the Knicks legend has said he did nothing wrong. and that he has been disrespected by the organization he played his heart out for. The lifetime ban was implemented on Friday but support for Oakley loomed large and longtime Knicks supporter Spike Lee wore an Oakley jersey to the team's game against the Spurs on Sunday.

In the following days, both Oakley and New York Knicks owner, Jim Dolan, released conflicting accounts of what happened the night of his arrest.

"It's not about being at the Garden", Oakley told Jeff Goodman of ESPN. Recently, Oakley is said to have felt snubbed by the team for being left out of its 70th anniversary celebration. "I love the fans in NY".

He later reiterated that request in a separate interview with ESPN, saying he would not return to the Garden as a guest of Dolan's if asked even though the owner apologized to him in private. They've been supportive. One of the things I told the commissioner, I want to have a press conference and I want him to apologize to me and the fans.

Dolan later said Oakley was thrown out because he was being verbally abusive to security.

"I appreciate the efforts of Mr. Dolan, Mr. Oakley and Mr. Jordan to work towards a resolution of this matter."
