Following a tragic accident in which a 10-year-old child was killed, Topshop has recalled the display units involved.

The boy was rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital after the incident occurred at around 16:15 GMT at the Topshop store in the Oracle Shopping Centre, Reading.

He died from severe head injuries when the 7ft mirror, which had been left standing free rather than being attached to a wall, toppled on to him.

Eyewitnesses said that he pulled down a barrier in the fashion store, causing the furniture to crash down onto his head.

Thames Valley Police said the boy was found with serious injuries after an incident involving shop furniture.

The Topshop store on the upper level of the Oracle Centre is still cordoned off.

Ambulance crews were called to the store on Monday afternoon.

A date for a post-mortem examination was also yet to be set.

"A scene watch is in place at the Topshop store and is likely to be in place for some time".

Outside the closed shop police officers interviewed witnesses and ordered onlookers to keep moving as a large throng of people gathered outside the shutters of the multi-storey clothes shop.

One card, which was unsigned, read: 'RIP little man'.

"Staff supported the emergency services and the child has now been taken to hospital for further treatment".

Topshop has removed till barrier units from all its stores after a 10-year-old boy died in a "horrific accident".

"We are thoroughly investigating all the events surrounding this extremely sad situation".

Paramedics treated him in the shopping centre.
