Venus Williams seems to have slipped and revealed that her sister, Serena Williams, is expecting a girl.

Venus Williams began her 20th Roland Garros with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over China's Wang Qiang on Sunday.

Said Venus: "She's going to call me 'favorite aunt'".

Serena has won the French Open three times, in 2002 (Venus was her opponent in the final), 2013 and 2015.

Serena cheered on Venus from the players' box on Court Philippe Chatrier, and there was plenty for the Williams family to celebrate as the 10th seed eased to a 6-3 6-1 win over Kurumi Nara.

It is the second consecutive year in which Kerber has lost in the opening round at Roland Garros, having also lost at this stage last year to Kiki Bertens, who went on to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final. I got home at 1 a.m., it was hard to sleep.

"Super tough, definitely", the 40th-ranked Croatian said.

Still mourning the recent death of his father, a tennis coach who helped Johnson learn the game back home in California, the 25th-seeded American didn't allow the jumble of feelings show outwardly.

"I didn't tell a lot of people, to be quite honest, and I'd been saving it", she added. "That just wraps it up", said Venus who has never got beyond the quarterfinal in Paris since her runner-up spot 15 years ago. "It's a great opportunity for me to grow together with him and to experience, you know, whatever is ahead of us". "So I think that she's just excited about everything coming up in her life, on and off the court, (and) excited about returning here hopefully next year". "I have this thing where I've been checking my status and taking pictures every week to see how far along I'm getting".

Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin won her opener against Italy's Camila Giorgi 6-2 6-3, Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine beat compatriot Kateryna Kozlova 6-4 6-0, Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus overcame Swiss Viktorija Golubic 4-6 7-5 6-3 and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko beat American Louisa Chirico 4-6 6-3 6-2.

Roberta Vinci, the 31st seed, could not find a way to end her four-year first-round losing streak at Roland Garros.

Serena Williams' baby is due in the fall.

She missed the Australian Open in January as a result and was initially expected to miss up to six months.
