Blomkamp has been teasing his mysterious Oats Studios project for a while, but a new teaser reveals a hint of what the director's experimental short film initiative will look like.

"The new world altered everyone", the trailer's narrator says, though she could be talking about the film industry.

With this project, it seems like Blomkamp is trying to utilize Steam as a go-to place for experimental art and as an outlet for his own wacky and freaky alien invasion ideas without the limits of studio expectations. While details about plot and cast are still kept under wraps, viewers notice two actresses in the teaser which very look like Dakota Fanning and Sigourney Weaver. It was based on Blomkamp's 2005 short film, "Alive in Joburg".

Making his feature film debut with District 9, South African-Canadian director Neill Blomkamp's 2009 tale of humanoid space prawns living among us became an immediate critical and commercial success. The plan appears to be to sell several of these short films online through Steam.

According to comments made by Blomkamp on his Twitter account, the director has been toying with the idea of distributing the shorts via Steam, though has since stated that Volume 1 "could be entirely free", with YouTube used as a platform.

The first trailer, which is simply titled Oats: Volume 1, appears to be a science fiction tale, with shots of aliens and discussions that aliens have landed on Earth with the sole goal of wiping us out. Most importantly, check out this very cool teaser trailer and let us know what you think!
