Nearly 12 years back on English soil, an unfamiliar Bangladesh toppled world champions Australia in one of the most memorable wins for the then Asiatic minnows.

Australia would expect a better show from their bowlers when they clash with the ever-improving Bangladesh in a Group A ICC Champions Trophy match at the Kennington Oval, on Monday. On both occasions, it has been Australia who were batting in the early stages of their innings when bad weather ended play.

Chasing 183, Australia were 83-1 when rain arrived after 16 overs, four overs short of the minimum needed for a game.

Both sides will take a point, with England still top of the group.

"I guess we've just got to beat England".

In the circumstances, Australia could have done with their batsmen being in good form before the crunch encounter with their old rivals. "Guys pretty much step up as a group and it brings out the best in us".

Bangladesh elected to bat and their supporters, whose superior numbers formed a sea of green in the stands, burst into life when Tamim flicked one off his pads for the game's first boundary.

Starc cut through the Bangladesh tail, bowling Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain for ducks in successive deliveries, before seeing off Mehedi Hasan to make it four wickets in nine balls.

"It's a bit frustrating obviously not to get a result in", Smith said. The start the Australians were hoping for never happened and eventually the umpires called off the game by 21:20 local time, forcing the teams to share the points.

"Of course I didn't want to go off".

In reply, after losing Aaron Finch (19) in the eighth over of the innings, Warner and Steve Smith (22*) had added unbeaten 38 runs before rain interrupted the proceedings and play could not resume.

"I think the general feeling is that the wickets here will slow up in the back end of the tournament", Zampa said prior to the tournament. Bangladesh got off to a slow start and just when they were contemplating to shift gears, Soumya Sarkar departed for 3, Imrul Kayes followed pursuit he went for 6 and Bangladesh were reeling at 37 for 2 when captain Mushfiqur Rahim joined Tamim Iqbal, who was well-set.

The result leaves Australia with two points after two games played in Group A and nearly certainly needing to beat England in their final game to reach the semi-finals.

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza remains hopeful of a miracle. "This time we've got a straight chance, even though we have to beat New Zealand".
